キリスト者のこと About Christians

 　イスラエル、アメリカの蛮行に対して、わたしはキリスト教徒に厳しい批判をしている。しかし、わたしはキリスト教徒全部を非難しているわけではない。

　わたしには、尊敬すべきキリスト者がいる。故溝口正先生は、無教会派のクリスチャンであった。ひたすら平和を希求し、そのために全身全霊を捧げられた。わたしにとっては仰ぎ見る存在であった。

　溝口先生が生きておられたら、イスラエルの蛮行、アメリカのイラン攻撃には、満腔の怒りをもって抗議していただろう。またもちろん、現在の日本政府の戦争に傾斜していく姿勢にも厳しく批判していただろう。

　キリスト者の中には、強く、強く平和を希求する人たちがいる。聖書にも、「靱（剣？）を打ち直して鋤とし、槍を打ち直して鎌とする」 という言葉があるではないか。

　また中村哲さんがいる。彼もキリスト者である。中村哲さんは、残念ながらアフガニスタンで凶弾に倒れた。アフガニスタンで医療活動を行い、井戸を掘り、水路を作り・・・と、そこに住む人びとが幸せに生きていけるように様々な事業をおこなっていた。その活動を支援するペシャワール会があり、わたしもその一会員としてささやかな協力をさせていただいている。

　すべてのキリスト者が、溝口先生や中村哲さんのように、隣人愛をもって接していけば、そして武器ではなく、医療器具、農具やトラクターなどを使って人びとが幸せに生きていける社会をつくっていけば、この世界はずっと住みやすくなるはずだ。 

 There is a Christian whom I deeply respect. The late Reverend Masashi Mizoguchi was a Christian of the Non-Church movement. He sought peace with all his heart and devoted his entire being to that cause. To me, he was a figure I looked up to.

If Reverend Mizoguchi were alive today, he would surely have protested with all his might against Israel’s atrocities and the U.S. attack on Iran. And of course, he would have severely criticized the current Japanese government’s increasingly war-oriented stance.

Among Christians, there are those who yearn for peace with all their might. Does not the Bible say, “They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks”?

Then there is Tetsu Nakamura. He, too, was a Christian. Sadly, Tetsu Nakamura was killed by a bullet in Afghanistan. He carried out medical work there, dug wells, built irrigation channels... and undertook various projects to help the people living there lead happy lives. There is an organization called the Peshawar Society that supports these activities, and as a member, I am doing my small part to help.

　If all Christians were to treat others with love for their neighbors, just as Dr. Mizoguchi and Tetsu Nakamura did, and if we were to build a society where people can live happily using medical equipment, farming tools, and tractors—rather than weapons—this world would surely become a much better place to live.
