集団的憑依の原因 1 Causes of Collective possession 1

 　2月の衆議院選挙結果は、キツネ顔の女が人びとに憑依したところから始まる。

　その憑依の原因が今探索されている。

　『週刊金曜日』2月27日号の古谷経衡の文は興味深い。ある種の世代論である。

　現在49歳以下の有権者により、「政策や争点が無視され、SNSを基底にして作り出された「高市さんは良い人じゃん」「高市さんが頑張っているのに虐められて可哀想」という児戯にも似た感覚で高市自民を選んだ結果が、自民圧勝の顛末であった」と書いている。 

　なぜそうした「児戯にも似た感覚」で自民党に投票したのか、その原因として、まず学校教育で、以下のような心性が育まれたからだという。

　「権力者や体制に反逆するのは損であり、権力に迎合しておこぼれを貰う生き方こそが、最も合理的な選択で賢明だ、という共通認識」がそれである。

　しかしこれは49歳以下の人間だけではなく、実際に日本社会はそういうシステムとして出来上がっているのである。「反逆する」人生を選ぶと、カネや名誉・地位からは確実に遠ざかる。それでもみずからの意志を貫くという少数だけが、その道を選択するのであって、最初は「反逆」していても、中途から「従順」になることを選び取る人のなんと多いことか。ほとんどの人は、「反逆する」人生を選ばない。

　だから、自民党に票を投じる人の数はいつも多く、だからこそ自民党政権は長く続き、さらにそれ以上に、自民党は時々大量得票する。

　それが一つ。もうひとつは、日本では「批判的思考を促す」という教育が、世界でもっともなされていない、という。日本は24.4％。韓国76.5％、台湾70．4％、アメリカ82.3％という数字があげられている。

　そうだろうなと思う。日本の学校教育は、素直な教員が多い。「反逆」する教員は少ない。日本では、学習指導要領というものがあって、教育内容が強く統制されている。とはいえ、教育はそれぞれの教室でなされるわけだから、国家が強いる教育内容を無視して教えることは十分可能である。しかし教員はそれをしない。国家が「批判的思考を促す」教育を遠ざけ、さらに批判的思考を教員が持っていないのだから、子どもがそれを学びとることはない。

　しかし、批判的思考があってこそ、いかなることも進歩する。批判的思考がないということは、現状のままでよいということだから、進歩が生まれることなんかあるはずはないのである。日本の停滞の原因は、そうした教育にある。

　批判を嫌うのがほとんどの有権者であるとするなら、もう日本には未来はない。

The cause of that possession is now being investigated.

Furuya Kyōhei's article in the February 27th issue of Weekly Friday is intriguing. It's a kind of generational theory.

He writes: “The result of voters aged 49 and under choosing the LDP based on a childish sentiment—‘Isn't Ms. Takaichi a good person?’ or ‘It's pitiful that Ms. Takaichi is being bullied even though she's working hard’—was the LDP's landslide victory. This election ignored policies and issues, instead being shaped by social media.” 'Ms. Takaichi is a good person, right?‘ and 'Ms. Takaichi is working hard, yet she's being bullied—it's pitiful.’ This childish sentiment led to the LDP's landslide victory."

Why did they vote for the LDP based on such “childish sentiment”? The cause, he argues, lies first in school education fostering the following mindset:

　“A shared understanding that rebelling against those in power or the system is disadvantageous, and that the most rational and wise choice is to accommodate power and receive its crumbs.”

However, this isn't limited to those under 49; Japanese society itself is structured as such a system. Choosing a life of “rebellion” reliably distances one from money, honor, and status. Only a minority who insist on following their own will choose that path. How many people start out “rebelling” only to choose ‘obedience’ partway through! Most people do not choose a life of “rebellion.”

Therefore, the number of people voting for the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is always large. This is precisely why LDP governments last so long, and even more significantly, why the LDP sometimes wins by landslide.

　That's one reason. Another is that Japan has the world's lowest level of education that “encourages critical thinking.” Japan stands at 24.4%. Figures show South Korea at 76.5%, Taiwan at 70.4%, and the United States at 82.3%.

I suppose that's true. Japanese school education has many compliant teachers. Few teachers “rebel.” Japan has the Curriculum Guidelines, which strongly control educational content. That said, since education happens in individual classrooms, it's entirely possible to teach content ignoring what the state mandates. But teachers don't do that. Since the state keeps education that “encourages critical thinking” at bay, and since teachers themselves lack critical thinking, children don't learn it.

　Yet progress in any field requires critical thinking. The absence of critical thinking implies acceptance of the status quo, making progress impossible. Japan's stagnation stems from this very education system.

If most voters dislike criticism, then Japan has no future.
