　この間もいろいろあった。世界は、何をするかわからない全く予想が立たない暴漢が行う破壊的行為を茫然とみているか、あるいは暴漢の行為に静かに賞賛のことばをささやいているか、あるいは暴漢と示し合わせて破壊的行為を共同で行うか、いくつかのグループにわかれているように見えた。いずれにしても、暴漢が暴れ回っている。国際社会は、暴漢の破壊的行為をやめさせることなんかできないと諦めているかのようにも見えた。

　いま、このような暴漢の姿は、あちこちでみることができる。ふつうのひとは、ふつうの生活をしているから、予測の付かないことをする暴漢の出現には慣れていない。何をして良いかわからないので、人びとは暴漢の行為をとめることはせずに遠巻きにみているだけで、事態が沈静化するのを待っている。

　21世紀になって、アメリカだけではなく、こうした暴漢が出現するようになった。常識の世界で常識的なことをしていれば、この世は常識的に動いていくのだが、暴漢の出現によって、そうでない時代が生まれたのである。その背景には、暴力的な資本主義＝新自由主義が猛威をふるっているからだ。「今だけ、カネだけ、自分だけ」の思考が、エリートの精神にこびりついている。

　今、とりわけ暴力的な暴漢であるトランプとイスラエルのネタニヤフが、やりたい放題のことをしている。それが出来てしまう世界へと変わってしまった。

　一定の良識を持っているだろうという予測は、見事にくつがえされた。彼らは一片の良識すら持たない野蛮人である。他者が殺されようと、どんなに困窮しようと、彼らの眼中にはない。目先の利益と、みずからの地位を確保することだけが彼らの原動力となっている。

　その原動力の背後に、新自由主義者たちがいる。彼らが、この二人を支えているのだ。

　世界の普通の人びとは、呆気にとられて、見つめることしかできないでいる。

Since the 21st century, such thugs have begun to appear not only in the United States but elsewhere as well. If people acted sensibly within the realm of common sense, the world would function sensibly; however, the emergence of these thugs has ushered in an era where that is no longer the case. Behind this lies the rampant spread of violent capitalism—neoliberalism. The mindset of “only the present, only money, only myself” is deeply ingrained in the minds of the elite.

Now, particularly violent thugs like Trump and Israel’s Netanyahu are doing whatever they please. The world has changed into one where they can get away with it.

Any expectation that they might possess a modicum of common sense has been spectacularly overturned. They are barbarians who lack even a shred of common sense. Whether others are killed or suffer in poverty, it is of no concern to them. Their sole driving force is securing immediate profits and their own positions.

Behind that driving force stand the neoliberals. They are the ones supporting these two.

Ordinary people around the world can only stare in stunned disbelief.
